Tips for Attending the British Royal Wedding

Getting ready to celebrate the biggest British Royal wedding in thirty years? Learn about the couple, how they met and how to celebrate in style in London this spring. There's a great story behind the upcoming union, and plenty of ways travelers can participate in the celebration to ensure a trip to remember.

Tips for Attending the British Royal Wedding

With Prince William of Wales' and Kate Middleton's wedding coming up on April 29th, everyone's talking about how the couple met, how William proposed, what Kate will wear, and if the couple will live happily ever after. Others wonder, "Who cares? Don't thousands of people get married each day?" After four years in the wedding business, I can assure you that this is no ordinary wedding, it's a British royal wedding and if Kate does everything right, she will become THE iconic bride of the decade as Diana did nearly thirty years ago.

If you're visiting London during the wedding, you'll have the opportunity to join thousands in celebrating the British royal wedding. Visitors will fill pretty much every London hotel and celebrate throughout the city after the wedding. You won't want to miss this party!

After 10 years of dating and short break in 2007, William finally asked Kate to marry him while on a trip in Kenya and presented her with his mother's wedding ring which she wore at her British royal wedding. Kate first caught William's attention while wearing a very scandalous see-through dress during a fashion show at St. Andrews College in 2001. Since then, both have undergone amazing personal growth and become very close friends. When the couple split in 2007, Kate was anything but happy; she now admits though that the time away from William made her stronger and gave her a better understanding of herself.

In a BBC interview with journalist Tom Bradby about the British royal wedding, William and Kate expressed their happiness as a couple, their desire to have a family and the somewhat rocky road that lead to the engagement. The media has given Kate an awful time throughout her relationship with William. She's seen everything from sneaky paparazzi to jealous teenage bloggers who call her a manipulative schemer and emphasize her middleclass status. (Who isn't middleclass these days?) During the interview, I saw Kate's personality shine through. She's a calm, sweet and relatively soft spoken lady whose calm nature will become more known after the big British royal wedding.

If you haven't received one of the 1,800 invitations to William and Kate's wedding, don't worry (I'm still checking my mailbox but no luck so far). You can still see part of the wedding procession. Unlike Diana who arrived at Westminster Abbey in a closed carriage, Kate will arrive by car to her British royal wedding. This might make it difficult to snap a shot of her before the ceremony. Instead plan on getting a spot for after the ceremony along the one-and-a-half mile route between West Minster Abbey and Buckingham Palace to see the couple as they ride by in a carriage. If you're willing to camp out for the best spot, stand in front of Buckingham Palace where you have a view of the balcony. Once William and Kate return to the palace, they will stand on the balcony and wave to the crowds. Make sure to get there early because there will be crowds fighting for a good spot.

After the crowds of have died down at Buckingham palace, find a good bar or London restaurant to continue the celebration. Oxo Tower Restaurant, Morton's, and the Ebury Brasserie have great food and are favorites among the royals. It's a fairy tale beginning and end in one day.
