Euston
Euston is a road and area of North London that is a popular jumping point for travel to other tourist destinations in the United Kingdom. When many local Londoners depart from their estate to travel, this is the station they choose to set off from. Being very close to Central London and in the Borough of Camden, getting to Euston is rather easy. There are also a plethora of things to do within this area that make it a worthwhile stop when visiting London.
Things to Do
A few of the more interesting activities around Euston are academic based. If you fancy studying and learning, you have come to the right place. A lot can be learned about London history here.
The British Library is located right on Euston Road. Storing over 12 millions manuscripts and books, academics and those looking to learn something new can view quite an immense collection here. These collections include the Magna Carta, a notebook of Leonardo da Vinci, manuscripts of the Beatles and Chinese oracle bones. How great is that? The amount of maps totals over 4 million as well.
The Henry Wellcome Collection carries on the legacy of Sir Henry Solomon Wellcome. This man was an entrepreneurial pharmacist and philanthropist. Whilst working, he and his company were the first to create tablet medicine pills. Henry Wellcome also collected a lot of medical devices, antiques, tools and artifacts detailing the history of medicine. Everything from exhibits detailing the history of drug use to seminars on anti-social behavior can be seen here. Even the toothbrush of Napoleon is on exhibit. And it's all free.
The surrounding area of Camden is also a centre for music and underground culture in London. The Jazz Cafe hosts intimate jazz, reggae, blues and hip-hop shows. And The Underworld plays features guitar heavy bands jamming. KOKO often has famous bands play. Other joints—like The Roundhouse—offer punters the chance to enjoy local comedy, theatre and art.
Nearby there is also a good deal of markets selling various antique furniture, handmade crafts, artwork and a plethora of other things. Located near the Regents Canal and near the Camden Town Tube stop, you will undoubtedly find something you fancy here.
Getting There and Getting Away
Getting around London and getting to here is very simple. This is especially true if you are already in Camden or nearby in Highbury and Islington.
Using the Tube in London, go to the Euston Underground Station via the Victoria Line or the Northern Line.
Walking and biking in London is also a great way to get around. And North London is one of the friendliest places to engage in such activities. So cycle or walk if you so desire.
Using the bus system in London, take a bus to the Euston Bus Station or to the King Cross stop. Euston Road is also a short walk from Tralfagar Square.
For those who to use the Euston Rail Station, know that it is very close to the Euston Underground Station. From here, you can catch daily rides to other United Kingdom locations like Liverpool, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
Places to Stay
Hotels in Euston are very popular choices for travelers because of the close proximity to the rail station. This convenience has led to many London hotels opening up operations here.
The Hotel Novotel is a particularly luxurious one. It has a large fitness centre, a grand meeting room and wireless internet. There is also a bar and restaurant on the premises.
The Travelodge Inn is one of the budget hotels in London. Located in Euston, it is incredibly close to the rail station and offers basic, comfortable accommodation.
