It’s a strange experience eating Eritrean food alone when it’s so obviously made for sharing. First come the enjera: light, slightly soured thickish pancakes, laid out on a platter; your dishes go on top and in you tuck, breaking off the bread, scooping, chatting and laughing. Or just eating and taking pictures in my case. When the next table got curious about the camera and struck up a conversation I felt pathetically grateful, instantly less of a Billy no-mates, and much more in the Asmara groove. Which is a very good groove, by the way.
